If
you want to explore the inland waterways of Europe your ICC
(International Certificate of Competence) must be CEVNI
endorsed. This can only be achieved by passing a
CEVNI exam.
Signs,
rules and procedures for navigating the European inland waterways are
all included within the CEVNI code and in the same way as
pleasure craft on coastal waters are expected to abide by the COLREGS,
pleasure craft on the inland waterways of Europe, which in places are
heavily utilised by commercial traffic are expected to know and follow
the CEVNI code.
The Test
The
RYA ICC CEVNI test is a short multiple choice test which can be
completed online. It is in two parts:
- Part 1 - Signs and buoyage
- Part 2 - Sound signals,
lights and shapes
There are seven questions in each part and you must get five out of
seven correct in each part to pass the test.
After you have passed the test you can print off a certificate that can
be used to apply to have your ICC endorsed for Inland Waterways.
